The Journey Towards Carbon-Neutral Industrial Workstations Has Started

The eco-consciousness of businesses is reaching new heights rapidly. Bio-based and environmentally friendly products are indeed becoming a staple in different catalogues all across the markets.

Recently Woodly announced its new collaboration with Treston, the world’s leading ergonomic industrial workstation and storage solution manufacturer. The joint effort, which includes UPM as well, has put Treston on a greener path towards offering its customers a carbon-neutral workstation.

From a brilliant idea to reality

As a result of the collaboration, Treston took the first step en route to its carbon-neutral goals by launching the Treston BiOX shelf bins, which include cross-dividers and label protectors made from Woodly® material. These bio-based shelf bins are the first of their kind and it all started from a simple yet effective idea.

“A little over a year ago, I watched an episode of ‘The Apprentice’ on TV, where they shot a commercial for the Mysoda carbonator. This device was made from an environmentally friendly bio-based raw material. Then I thought we should find something similar to Treston as well. At the same time, there were signals from our sales team that there was a demand for products like this. Then we started to move things forward,” reflects Kari Nokka, Treston’s Product Group Manager.

Solutions for responsible customers

As with all responsible and environmentally friendly products, it all comes down to the customers, current and future. When a clear demand is met, the market potential grows, and one can only imagine what opportunities lie ahead.

“We believe the potential for bio-based products is great in the future. Our customers want to make climate-friendly solutions by reducing their carbon footprint and the use of non-renewable resources,” emphasizes Nokka.

Finding Woodly

Advanced solutions are only possible with the right material, and this is where Woodly comes in. Word had reached Treston about the innovative wood-based bioplastic material and sure enough, the collaboration was a no-brainer.

“Woodly provided us with a solution to our needs. It is a wood-based, bioplastic material, which is transparent. Furthermore, Woodly is an interesting, innovative start-up company,” praises Nokka.

“After the idea, we mapped out potential partners, and as a result, Woodly was found. After a couple of months, the project plan was ready. Then countless test runs and tests later, a solution model was found which was eventually commercialized. After a year from the original idea, we were the first to launch a wood-based bioplastic storage solution for industrial use,” continues Nokka.

The journey continues

The collaboration has only just begun, and the future holds many interesting possibilities for a 100% carbon-neutral industrial workstation.

“The future is looking good. The first products made from Woodly®, cross-dividers and label protectors, have been launched worldwide. The cooperation continues. The next step is to find solutions for other ideas, and the work has already begun,” he concludes.
